What’s Happening With the Blog?

It’s Been A While

The last time I shared a post here was on the 20th of December, 2023.

That is… quite a long time ago.

This isn’t the first time I have taken a step back from updating the blog but I feel like sixteen months might be a little overboard. Not that there wasn’t a good reason for taking a break. In fact, there were a few.

Why Has it Been A While?

Towards the end of 2023 and all the way through to September 2024, I found myself dealing with a situation that demanded almost every spare piece of energy and thought processing I had.

I won’t be explaining exactly what was going on. If you know me and know what was happening, I’m sure you can understand why my mind was too busy to be creating posts for this blog.

During those months, taking the time to sit down with my laptop and do some writing felt like an impossible task. My mind was already numb from staring at screens and scrolling through endless reams of emails and documents.

Then, in September last year, it was all resolved. Over nine months of stress and in one day, everything was okay. The work put in during that time had paid off.

I was finally able to get back to normal life.

Unfortunately, this blog had become a casualty of 2024. I had gone so long without posting anything, that the habit had fallen away. Add that to the fact that I felt like I couldn’t share a new post until I had something special, eye-catching and well thought out, there just continued to be reasons to put it off.

Until today.

Why Am I Writing This?

I have spent a good amount of time thinking about what I want to say in my first post back after so long.

Do I write out a long winded (and probably pretty tedious) run down of my last year?
Do I share a brief post explaining that I’ve been busy but am trying to start writing here again?
Do I just publish the next post in the “Before Amputation” series without so much as acknowledging how long it has been?

In the end, as you can probably tell, I went for option two.

From Now On?

I will probably not be posting as regularly as I was in the early days. Put that down to needing time to get back into the swing of it.

Obviously I just really wanted to build up the suspense for that one.

If you are returning after the long gap, what can I say except, I hope you’ve had a good sixteen months. Thank you for coming back.

Stay safe folks and be excellent to each other.

  1. I end my blogposts with “until next time” because I write what I like when I like.

I’m processing some new health issues and find myself easily overwhelmed currently so I’m giving myself grace and sharing posts when I can.

Give yourself the grace you’d give others and find the pace that suits you.

You don’t owe anyone explanations beyond “it’s been a while because life bit me” and only if you want to give a warning you’ll be erratic as you deal with the fallout.

You’re inviting us to visit with you and don’t owe us content or anything.

    Hope things improve in 2025.

    1. I do like “until next time”. A nice way to tie them off.

I’m sorry to hear that you are having struggles of your own. I hope that they are something that will ease with time.

Thank you for your comment, and I agree, an explanation isn’t owed. That being said, as it had been so long, I wanted to acknowledge the amount of time that had past, as well as let people know that I would be starting up again without just dropping straight back into the regular posts.

Again, I really appreciate your comment.

Same to you, I hope your 2025 is a smooth year.

      1. I usually ask where has time gone while life got in the way if it’s been a long time since my previous post. Then share as much (or as little) as I feel comfortable with. Unfortunately my latest health issue looks like it will get worse over time… I wonder if when I was offered these challenges in life I thought like with Pokémon cards the goal was to collect them all *wink* *grin*

Sounds a bit shallow but my biggest grief with this new challenge is it means I’m losing the ability to take spontaneous walks in the countryside as having had bad falls and near misses on the relatively smooth paths and roads around my hometown walking on uneven and hazardous routes through woods and rutted fields is robbing me of skylark song and bluebell haze.
Stay strong! Stay stubborn! But most importantly stay safe.

      2. Now I can always get behind a good Pokemon reference. 😀

On a serious note though, I’m sorry to hear that you’re struggling with your health issues. And it doesn’t sound shallow at all to say that. Many of the things I missed and still do miss after my amputation were to do with being outdoors. Especially living in the Scottish Highlands, there are so many hills out there that I once thought I’d be climbing.

But, as you say. We’ve got to stay strong. There are still plenty of (metaphorical) hills to be climbed.

        Stay safe.
